Prophylaxis

Decision to administer endocarditis prophylaxis depend on the underlying cardiopathy and on the body site treated.

  1. Cardiopathy requiring prophylaxis.
  2. Treated body site.

Prophylaxis administered following body treatment site

  1. Digestive tract.
  2. Urogenital trac.
  3. Gynecology.
  4. Skin.
  5. Toth, OHNS, respiratory tract .

Toth, OHNS, respiratory tract

Prophylaxis if:

  • Intervention on the gums.
  • Puncture or biopsy of the oral muqeuse.
  • Tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy.

Prophylaxis (1 hour before hte intervention).

Oral: Amoxicilline (Clamoxyl) 2 g orally

  • If allergic to penicillin type of late: [Cefuroxime] (# 365) (Zinat) 1 g orally
  • If allergic to penicillin early type [clindamycin] (# 366) (Dalacin) 600 mg orally

Parenteral: amoxicilline (Clamoxyl) 2 g i.v.

  • If allergic to penicillin type of late: [Cefazolin] (# 368) (Kefzol) 1 g i.v. or [ceftriaxone] (# 369) (Rocephin) 2 g i.v.
  • If allergic to penicillin early type [clindamycin] (# 366) (Dalacin) 600 mg i.v. or [vancomycin] (# 370) (Vancocin) 1 g i.v.
