Diagnosis, prophylaxis and treatment

Prophylaxis

Decision to administer endocarditis prophylaxis depend on the underlying cardiopathy and on the body site treated.

  1. Cardiopathy requiring prophylaxis.
  2. Treated body site.

Prophylaxis administered following body treatment site

  1. Digestive tract.
  2. Urogenital trac.
  3. Gynecology.
  4. Skin.
  5. Toth, OHNS, respiratory tract .

Skin

Prophylaxis if:

  • active infection with indication for antibiotic treatment active avec indication à un traitement antibiotique.
  • abscess or furuncle incision.

Prophylaxis (1 hour before intervention).

Oral: Amoxicilline/ac. clavulanique (Augmentin) 2 g orally

  • If delayed penicillin allergy: Céfuroxime (Zinat) 1 g orally
  • If acute penicillin allergy: Clindamycine (Dalacin) 600 mg orally

Parenteral: amoxicilline/ac. clavulanique (Augmentin) 2.2 g i.v.

  • If delayed penicillin allergy: Céfazoline (Kefzol) 1 g i.v. or Ceftriaxone (Rocephin) 2 g i.v.
  • If acute penicillin allergy: Clindamycine (Dalacin) 600 mg i.v. or Vancomycine (Vancocin) 1 g i.v. Treatment duration depend on infection type.
